Manual Rodeo Grande Firmware Flash Update

Manual Rodeo Grande Firmware Flash Update

Introduction

If you received a Rodeo Grande shipped before August 2025, we will need to do a manual firmware update to be able to receive updates from future releases. These steps will only need to be done once, and not for every update after. You will need the following tools to complete the update:
  1. MicroSD card with a minimum of 2GB of storage
  2. MicroSD card reader
  3. Phillips head screwdriver
  4. Tweezers or a fine tipped screwdriver
  5. StudioCap-VC 2.0.3.0 or newer
  6. Manual Update Support files from IO Industries
    1. Please contact us for these files
      1. InternalBoardUpdateFiles.zip
      2. FirmwareUpdateFiles.zip

Please follow the steps below to update your Rodeo Grande. It will be broken down into 3 sections. If you have any questions or concerns during the update, please reach out to IO Industries for further assistance before proceeding.

StudioCap-VC Installation and Opening the Rodeo Grande

  1. Before we start, we will need to make sure we are updated to the latest release of StudioCap-VC, version 2.0.3.0. If not installed, please go ahead and install the latest release from our website.
  2. Locate the 12 screws holding down the lid of the Rodeo Grande - 6 on top, 3 on the left side, and 3 on the right side.
  3. Using your Phillips head screwdriver, undo each screw carefully to avoid stripping them.
  4. Once all screws are removed, locate the MicroSD card slots, and DIP switches as labeled in the image below.

Internal Board Update

  1. Copy the files from the InternalBoardUpdateFiles.zip to the MicroSD card.
  2. Once copied, place the MicroSD card into the Internal Board MicroSD card slot as labeled above.
  3. Adjust the Internal Board DIP switches to match the following:

| 1: OFF | 2: ON | 3: OFF | 4: ON |

  1. Power on the Rodeo Grande, and wait 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the internal board will complete the update.
  2. Power off the Rodeo Grande.
  3. Remove the MicroSD card.
  4. Return the DIP switches to match the following:

| 1: ON | 2: OFF | 3: OFF | 4: ON |

Manual Firmware Update

  1. Using the same SD card, remove all contents inside and replace them with the files from the FirmwareUpdateFiles.zip.
  2. Once copied, place the MicroSD card into the Firmware MicroSD card slot as labeled above.
  3. Adjust the "Firmware" DIP switches to match the following:

| 1: OFF | 2: OFF | 3: OFF | 4: ON |
  1. Power on the Rodeo Grande, and allow it to fully boot up.
  2. Open the StudioCap-VC Firmware updater.
    1. The Rodeo Grande will show up in the software once it has been fully powered on.
  3. You will now see that the current firmware on the Rodeo Grande is GrandeCXDual 1.6/1.5, and you will get a warning stating that the device firmware version does not match installed firmware version. Disregard this warning.
  4. Continue the update process using the firmware included in the installer.
    1. In this example, the software will display GrandeCXDual 1.5 under the "Program" dropdown list.
  5. When the update is completed, you will get an error saying that the update has failed. Disregard this error. See image:

  1. Close the StudioCap-VC Firmware updater and power off the Rodeo Grande.
  2. Remove the MicroSD card.
  3. Return the DIP switches to match the following:

| 1: ON | 2: ON | 3: OFF | 4: ON |
  1. Power on the Rodeo Grande, and open the StudioCap-VC Firmware Updater once more, and confirm that the current firmware installed is now displaying GrandeCXDual 1.5.

Conclusion

Now that the Rodeo Grande has been updated to the latest release firmware, you will be able to update normally through the StudioCap-VC Firmware Updater software without manually doing the steps above.
