How to configure an IOI CoaXpress camera in single link with an Active Silicon FireBird framegrabber

This article assumes an Active Silicon FireBird frame grabber and it's appropriate software have already been installed on a control PC.
This example uses an IO Industries Victorem 89B93CCX. If a different IOI CoaXpress camera is being used, please consult the user manual for the camera to verify the correct registers.

Previous tests using IOI CXP cameras in single link with Active Silicon FireBird frame grabbers have resulted in unsuccessful camera detection due to the default link configuration.

This article will outline steps to set the default link configuration of an IOI CXP camera to single-link so the FireBird frame grabber will properly detect the camera.

The problem: Active Silicon "ActiveCapture" and the Victorem CXP control software are unable to detect the camera when it is connected via one link to the frame grabber.

The solution:

1. Open the Active Silicon "PhoenixCapture" software.
2. Select Phoenix tab > control centre
3. Select the correct board type for the frame grabber and hit configure
4. Navigate to CXP tab
5. Under the "Mode" group set the following options in the drop down menus:
       -Bitrate = 3.125
       -Discovery = 1 Link
6. Hit the "Apply" button at the bottom right corner of the window
7. Use the "Write to Camera (HEX)" group to change ConnectionConfig register on the camera to CXP3x1:
       -Write 00010038 to address 00004014
-Read this register (4 bytes) to verify
Consult the user manual for the camera to use a different link configuration than CXP3x1.
ConnectionConfig set to CXP3x1. Verified by reading the register.
8. Write the following registers using the same method as above in this order:
       a) Write 00000001 to address 4000a000 => Select user set 1
       b) Write 00000001 to address 4000a008 => Save current configuration to the selected user set
       c) Write 00000001 to address 4000a004 => Set the power-up profile of the camera to user set 1
9. Close the PhoenixCapture software
10. Power-cycle the camera

The "ConnectionConfigDefault" register of the camera will now be set to CXP3x1 when the camera boots up. The frame grabber should now be able to detect the camera in the ActiveCapture software or in the Victorem Control Software.
