What are the advantages of using the 2ndLook Video Library recording format?

2ndLook is installed with a proprietary file filter called 2ndLook Video Library. This is the default recording format and is the only format that can be reviewed in 2ndLook (e.g. 2ndLook cannot open/play an .avi file).
The advantages of using the 2ndLook Video Library recording format are that:
  • Recordings can be reviewed in 2ndLook.
  • Timestamps are saved and used to accurately identify each frame location in time.
  • Pixel packing is leveraged to reduce file size by up to 37.5% (10-bit).
  • Additional recording information such as recording duration, camera names, video formats and resolutions are saved in the file.
  • Event markers can be added and named to keep track of critical points in the recording.
  • Image conversions for display can be added, edited or removed - even after a recording is completed. Possible image conversions include Color Look Up Tables, Bayer Transformations, YUV conversions and text overlays. Image conversions only affect displayed or exported video, meaning that recorded data is not modified.
  • Multiple streams (cameras) will be stored to the same file. The video from all cameras can be exported or reviewed simultaneously or individually.
