How to Free up Space on a DVR

How to Free up Space on a DVR

When a drive set becomes full, recording files must be deleted in order to make space for new recordings. If the video stored in one or more recording files needs to be preserved for future use, it can be offloaded to a portable backup file (.mdf). Video stored in a backup file can be viewed using CoreView on any system without needing an attached DVR. It can also be restored to another drive set.

The backup wizard copies one or more recordings to one or more local files.
You can also make a timeline selection that corresponds to the data you'd like to preserve and then complete the backup process choosing "timeline selection" instead of "entire recording" when prompted (this is not done on the export page but on the backup/restore page - icon that looks like a folder with a film canister on it).

If at least one recording is present, the backup wizard begins by displaying the Introduction page. If no recordings exist, the backup wizard will not open and a warning dialog is displayed. The backup wizard consists of a collection of pages that control the backup operation. Each page has a Next and a Cancel button. To continue with the backup, press the Next button. To cancel the operation and close the wizard, press the Cancel button. All pages beyond the first page have a Back button. Press the Back or Next buttons to move between pages.

The Backup Manager has a toolbar and displays a list of all open backup files. The name, creation date and size of each file is shown. The list can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on any of the three column heading labels. Pause over a file name to see the full path of a file. If a file is read or write only a warning icon is displayed. If a file is missing or cannot be opened an error icon  is displayed.

Please verify the .mdf files in CoreView before deleting any original recording files.
